Stocks or Exchange Traded Product.
No exits this week, as I haven’t followed our basic strategy (formerly known as our basic strategy) of buying shares of PA top names in a while, but have been placing options trades on them instead. Nevertheless, our top names have continued their strong performance, as you can see in last night’s update below.
Options
Today was the big options expiration date for the month, and as usual, our losses collect on big OpEx days (since we usually exit winners before expiration). But what’s unusual this time is that 75% of our exits on an OpEx day were winners. This is likely due to two changes we made in our options trading recently:
Using more 3- and 4-leg combos, where we partially finance calls or call spreads using credit put spreads. This lowers our entry costs and break evens.
Changing our exit rules to aim for 80% of the width on call spreads. This enables us to cash out of winning trades earlier, and reduces the odds of round-tripping a winning trade into a losing one.
